Toronto Life makeover is an "homage to classic magazine design"

Toronto Life magazine has unveiled a redesign that recovers its iconic red box and a revamped logotype (above). Its August issue's new look was unveiled at a reception in Toronto this  week and essentially undoes much of a redesign made 5 years ago. It is on some newsstands now and will be on all of them by July 15.

New-look Chatelaine seems to have dispensed with substance altogether

I don't believe I'm alone in wondering how far the transformation of venerable magazine Chatelaine will go. The current (June) issue essentially contains no feature material at all. No profiles. No issues dealt with. Nothing that would qualify as a "good read".  The Chatelaine of old could deftly blend fluff and substance. Now, much of the substance appears to have been jettisoned.

World's oldest Sunday newspaper, The Observer redesigns

The Observer, the world's oldest Sunday newspaper, is relaunching this weekend and, with it is a wholly new design and a new arts section called The New Review, designed by the paper's creative director Carolyn Roberts.
