The Getty

My mum was in town for a few weeks so we took ourselves off to the Getty Center for the day. I had been meaning to go for donkeys yonks. What an amazing place. In 1984, Richard Meier was chosen to be the architect (and what a god job he did too) The construction was significantly delayed, with the planned completion date moved from 1988 to 1995. By 1995, however, the place was described as only "more than halfway complete". The Center finally opened to the public on December 16, 1997. The 134,000-square-foot Central Garden is the work of artist Robert Irwin. Irwin was quoted as saying that the Central Garden "is a sculpture in the form of a garden, which aims to be art." So there you have it.
Next time you're in LA and you've done all the bike things head on over here for a break, it's well worth it. I of course forgot my camera so ended up taking these pics on my iPhone (what a handy gadget) that's why they are a bit wonky.
